JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, in partnership with MUFG, presents “Entertainment Without Borders | An Industry Perspective,” an evening of conversation exploring the evolving dynamics of representation, dealmaking, and entertainment production in Hollywood and beyond. This timely discussion brings together distinguished industry leaders who are on the forefront of the exciting cross-cultural future of entertainment.

Join us for an engaging panel discussion featuring powerhouse lineup of entertainment industry veterans: producer Brent Travers moderating the discussion; entertainment attorney Shep Rosenman; renowned casting directors Yoko Narahashi and Carla Hool, known for their groundbreaking work in Japanese talent representation and LatinX respectively; and celebrated manager and stylist Jeanne Yang. These influential voices will share their unique insights and experiences from different corners of the industry.

The discussion will illuminate topics transforming today's entertainment landscape, including the changing dynamics of roles and representation in casting and production, perspectives from key dealmakers across various industry roles, and how evolving audience expectations are creating new opportunities in storytelling and talent representation. Our panelists will explore how these shifts are reshaping traditional industry practices and opening new paths for diverse voices both on and off screen.

Following the panel discussion and Q&A session, guests are invited to join us for an intimate networking reception, offering an opportunity to continue the conversation and connect.

Brent Travers
Producer

Having lived in Brazil and learned Portuguese, Travers has been instrumental in building a bridge for talent between Brazil and Hollywood. He is currently producing *The Secret Agent*, directed by Cannes Jury Prize-winning filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. His slate of projects in development includes a Marlene Dietrich biopic, a modern adaptation of *Othello* with Brazilian director Jeferson De, and an adaptation of *Virtues of Hell* by *Planet of the Apes* author Pierre Boulle. Additional projects include *The Degenerates*, directed by Afonso Poyart, *Dead Air - The Night That Orson Welles Terrified America*, *Vernon God Little*, *Kansas City* with director Lucia Puenzo, *Victor Bravo* with director Edward Hall, and *A Love Supreme*, written by Oscar-winner Kevin Willmott and starring Laurence Fishburne.

Shep Rosenman
Entertainment Attorney

Psalms and is producing a podcast called, The Rest is Commentary, consisting of conversations about the big issues inspired by those songs and Psalms.  Shep is one of the co-founders of LimmudLA, was a trustee and member of the Limmud Global Board, and was the founding President of LimmudNA.  Shep is a Wexner Heritage alum and an AJWS Global Justice Fellow.

Yoko Narahashi
Director, Producer, Casting Director and Actress

Yoko Narahashi is Director, Casting Director, Producer, Actress and Lyricist. The daughter of a Japanese diplomat to ICAO of the United Nations, Yoko grew up in Montreal and Ottawa receiving her formal education in Canada. Carla Hool
Casting Director

Carla Hool is an award-winning casting director renowned for her expertise in both film and television, with a career marked by her exceptional ability to cast diverse and talented actors. Her latest project, Emilia Perez (2024), directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón, has earned critical acclaim, winning the Jury Prize at Cannes. ...  Read more.

The film has also been selected as France’s official submission for the 2025 Oscars in the Best International Feature category and garnered recognition at the Telluride Film Festival, positioning it as a strong contender in the upcoming awards season.

Carla has contributed her casting expertise to high-profile projects like Coco (2016), for which she won an Artios Award, and Narcos, where her casting earned her two Artios Award nominations. She also received NALIP’s Industry Pioneer Award in 2019 and the prestigious 2022 Heller Award for Feature Casting Director of the Year. Carla has been involved in casting for major films such as Nacho Libre (2006), Apocalypto (2006), Sin Nombre (2009), Man on Fire (2004), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2021), where she contributed to additional casting. Some of her television credits include hit shows like Narcos, Narcos: Mexico, Hotel Cocaine, The Bridge (Season 2), Eastbound & Down (Season 2), and Los Espookys.

In addition to her accolades, Carla is recognized for her work on major productions like Sound of Freedom (2023), A Million Miles Away (2022), and Flamin’ Hot (2021), which earned her an Artios nomination for 2025. She continues to lead the casting industry with upcoming films such as Jonás Cuarón’s Gringo Champion (2024), Alejandro Monteverde’s Bethlehem (2024), and Laurent Zeitoun’s Wings of Freedom (2024). 

Fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, and some French, Carla’s multilingual skills complement her casting abilities, allowing her to work seamlessly on international projects. With a distinguished career, numerous awards, and highly anticipated upcoming films, Carla Hool remains a pivotal figure in shaping the landscape of casting in Hollywood and beyond.
