Sake is a Japanese brewed beverage made from rice, and just like wine, there are many kinds to choose from. Sweet, dry, crisp, smooth--sake comes in various flavor profiles and can be enjoyed hot or cold. Sake is one of the most popular drinks in Japan. Equally popular? Shochu. But have you ever heard of it?
Shochu is a distilled liquor and can be made from potatoes, rice, barley, or a variety of other ingredients which give shochu its distinct, unique taste. While still relatively unknown in the US, shochu is deeply appreciated in Japan.
Join us at JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles for a special evening of exploring the world of sake and shochu. Eight prominent breweries, invited directly from Japan, will gather at our newly-opened Salon on the 5th floor of Hollywood & Highland to showcase over 20 different sake and shochu brands. You'll taste the sophistication of a Dassai 23, enjoy refreshing sparkling sake, and be able to discover for yourself the subtle differences between shochu varieties. Appetizers will be served, featuring some of the finest locally sourced uni that will compliment the sake and shochu.
The evening will also have a short presentation about sake and shochu, illuminating guests both familiar and new to the world of Japanese liquor.
Guests must be 21 or older to attend. Please do not forget to bring your ID to verify age.
