Start out your holiday season with a shimmer in this exclusive hands-on workshop introducing kinpaku, the Japanese art of gold leaf pressing. Since ancient times, kinpaku has been used to apply delicate gold leaf to various surfaces, from high art to everyday design products. While the craft can take a lifetime to perfect, even beginners can immerse in the world of kinpaku and create a treasure of their very own.
In this workshop, participants will create their own original work of art by applying gold leaf to a square plate in a design of their choosing; the finished work will be placed in a beautiful container for you to take home. The instructor will guide participants through the entire process, sharing their expertise and tips to create stunning gold leaf designs.
All materials will be provided, and participants will also have the opportunity to taste a selection of food items available at our WAZA Shop during the check-in time.
This workshop will also highlight the works of Gomei Kinpaku Kogei, a fourth-generation Kyoto firm which has created distinctive kinpaku for everything from domestic Buddhist altarware to accessories for Osaka Castle and Tiffany & Co.
Join us for the rare opportunity to learn from experts about this fascinating art form, and to illuminate the possibilities of gold leaf, for gifting, home design, and any creative pursuit.
