This seasonal workshop will share sustainable wrapping techniques using the traditional Japanese art of furoshiki. For over 2,000 years, the square cloth known as furoshiki has been a simple, elegant, and sustainable method of Japanese “wrapping”, used in various forms for everything from special gifts, to groceries, to everyday items. Now more than ever, it’s an ideal, eco-friendly alternative to disposable wrapping paper, and perfect to consider for all your holiday gifting needs.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about the history and culture of furoshiki, along with a variety of useful wrapping techniques such as box wrapping, bottle wrapping, shopping bags, and more. Our instructor will introduce various folding and knotting techniques, and give personal guidance in creating stunning and reusable gift wraps.
Every participant will receive two beautiful printed furoshiki cloths to take home with them and use for their own wrapping projects (19.5” x 19.5” and 27.5” x 27.5” sizes), and also have the opportunity to taste a selection of food items available at our WAZA Shop during the check-in time. Don’t miss the chance to make a positive impact on the environment while adding a touch of elegance to your gift-giving this festive season, and all year round!
