In order to offer an expanded experience for the local, domestic and international visitors during the summer season, JAPAN HOUSE’s 2nd floor space including the gallery and the shop will be closed for remodeling from June 21 through July 16.
JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles is pleased to announce the upcoming world debut of the BAKERU: Transforming Spirits exhibition starting on July 17, 2019, following the current contemporary ceramic exhibition of KESHIKI: The Landscape Within which comes to a close on June 20. The exhibition will extend into the former shop and cafe spaces, and many more exciting plans are underway.
BAKERU is a participatory exhibition inviting visitors to step into the supernatural world of Japanese folk traditions through a process of transformation (bakeru means ‘transform’ in Japanese) wearing special masks. The interactive exhibition is created by WOW, Japan’s preeminent creative art and design studio, to provide broader access to local Japanese culture to audiences beyond the region, including younger, digital-native generations.
Details of the BAKERU exhibition will follow in a few weeks through the July Newsletter.
