People in the JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles gallery

The Gallery hosts two types of exhibitions – traveling exhibitions and exhibitions original to JAPAN HOUSE LA. Traveling exhibitions rotate between all three JAPAN HOUSE galleries located in Los Angeles, London and Sao Paulo. Other exhibitions are unique to JAPAN HOUSE LA, conceptualized and developed by its curatorial team for American and international audiences, and often partner with Japanese and American individuals and organizations.
Gallery tours guided by the curatorial staff can be arranged upon request.

Each exhibition is accompanied by related programs such as art talks, live demonstrations and family-friendly workshops, which provide an immersive and memorable experience for visitors. The programs are held in the Level 2 sub-gallery area, the Level 5 Salon, or off-site with partnering organizations. In most cases, the exhibition artists travel to Los Angeles to help celebrate the public opening and to engage with visitors.

JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles’ Level 2 was designed by multidisciplinary artist Kohei Nawa. His works have been presented in notable international galleries including Musée du Louvre, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Pace Gallery, and more.

Ikebana’s Festive Expressions

JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles invites guests to discover the beauty of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, from late December to early January. Showcasing the artistry of Ikenobo, Ohara, and Sogetsu schools, this series of displays by each school draw from inspirations including celebrating Western holiday decor and traditional Japanese New Year motifs. Dynamic floral installations that foster understanding of ikebana as a living art form and highlight distinctive styles will create an engaging, seasonally-appropriate welcome to the ongoing Masters of Carpentry exhibition.
